The Little Theatre

The history of FHODS can be traced back to before the First World War, but it was not until 1965 that the Society found its permanent home in Sandgate High Street.
The former Congregational Church was converted into a fully equipped theatre and opened to the public in 1966. Over the years members and patrons have contributed towards and carried out many alterations and improvements to the original building, including a complete face lift to the front of the theatre. This was necessary in order to carry out maintenance to the original stonework, but we took the opportunity to take a fresh look at our facade and, amongst other things, to reveal the original church window arches. The building is now in keeping with the Sandgate Conservation Area, and has a very attractive look.

In 1993 the Society purchased a warehouse in Gough Road, near to the theatre. Now that the conversion is complete, it provides rehearsal rooms and space for set building, enabling us to put on additional productions.

In December 1990 we became a Registered Charity, a very important event for us, as we hope it will enable us to raise funds necessary to keep this, the only theatre in Shepway, open and thriving. Look out for our productions during the coming year at our Little Theatre - you will always find a warm welcome.

The Theatre is fitted with a Loop Induction System for the hard of hearing.
