Bim's Oak

March 17th.  Those who knew Bim Wilson would approve the choice of English Oak as the tree most appropriate to stand in tribute to him,  and the north meadow of Eaton Lands as the appropriate place to plant it.

The tree is one of six that were planted by Hythe Town Council in early March, the others being a beech, two hornbeam, a whitebeam and a lime.

The Civic Society joined forces with The Town Council to provide the Oak and a dedication ceremony, led by chairman Brigadier John Holman and the Town Mayor Wendy Harris was held on 17th March.  In spite of a very cold northeast wind, over 30 stalwart people attended.  Mrs. Pat Wilson, who was accompanied by her daughter, son-in law and baby grandson, bravely wielded the ceremonial spade.

To conclude proceedings, the tree was stylishly watered by the Town Sergeant.
