Our recent representations are posted here.
Our Planning Officer, C Case-Leng, has lodged objections on behalf
of the Society to the following Planning Applications that were
published by Shepway District Council under the reference numbers
indicated:
Y05/1524/SH and Y05/1661/SH.
The Whim, Park Road.
December and January proved to be lively months, with a great number
of people phoning me up to see what the Civic Society was
"going to do about the Whim!" Built in the late C19, the Whim is
circular, with a central atrium, and is clad in white-painted
weatherboarding. Despite its architectural and historical interest,
the building is not currently listed, although an application for
Listing has been made to English Heritage. An application in
December for the erection of a terrace of 3 dwellings with integral
garages following demolition of the existing was followed in January
by a 28 day Demolition Notice. Both applications were taken to the
January Planning Committee, where a 6 month Building Preservation
Notice was issued to allow English Heritage time to consider it for
Listing.
Y05/1608/SH.
Rear of 39/41 Dymchurch Road.
This application is for the erection of a detached, 2-storey
dwelling, with an integral garage, and accommodation in the roof
space, in the rear garden area of No's 39/41 Dymchurch Rd; and is
accessed from Victoria Avenue, where 2-storey Victorian terraces
with on-street car parking predominate. This is an incredibly small
site, and I have objected on the grounds of density and local
distinctiveness.
Y05/1640/SH.
Woodend, Cannongate Rd.
Consent was granted for the conversion of the property and a
side/rear extension to provide 14 flats with conditions, plus a TPO
was served on the site to protect the trees. Subsequently, due to
structural instability and costs, the applicant has submitted an
application to demolish the house and erect a building providing the
same number of flats. I understand that this has now been withdrawn,
though confirmation of this has yet to be received.
Y06/0015/SH.
Tialouby's restaurant has submitted an application to provide a
conservatory. The building itself is without merit, the same can be
said for the proposed conservatory.
Y06/0062/SH.
92 Seabrook Road
I have objected to an application to remove condition 16 of planning
permission Y04/1675/SH to allow access to be gained to the site both
during and after construction from the access road to the east of
the site, and for delivery of building materials and mechanical
excavation equipment via that access road.
The high hedge that runs along the eastern boundary of the site was
clearly given in SDC's planning brief to the DCC as a specific
reason why the development would NOT cause any inconvenience or
noise to the property to the east, and why the development should be
permitted. The planning permission granted clearly states that ALL
access to the site for construction and subsequent access should
come from the main Seabrook Rd.
The access conditions are already being contravened by the parking
of construction vehicles on the land to the east, and by access to
the site being gained from the north-eastern corner.
